You might consider using different hardware, or removing additional components. The picture you provided when I asked for a schematic of your setup is an old ADS7924EVM. You have removed the I2C pullups (RA1) and I do not see how you have the RESET pin pulled high. Signal integrity with the fly wires may also be an issue.
