Forum Post: RE: AIC3254 transition from EVM

Thanks - will look through this (am in the middle of putting together an interface breadboard at the moment).

This morning, as I was enjoying a first cup of coffee, I started to step through the code to see if there is some way that I can translate it to my rig (and justify the effort in terms of my own stalled CODEC work). The coffee has worn off and early afternoon brain fog is creeping in.

The default values may work until the dividers get reprogrammed if there is a valid external MCLK. This would not be true in my case, since I don't have an external source for MCLK, but am using BCLK as an input and feeding it to the PLL.

I recall getting a Blue Screen on my Windows 7 box, but not the old NT box. Heart attack! The answer, in my case, involved reloading drivers and setting the application's compatibility mode to Windows XP (Service Pack 3)...and changing this setting for all users (I hadn't originally done this).

At the moment I'm not driving the CODEC with my host MPU. The AIC3254 Audio Interface is communicating directly with an MSP430BT5190-based Bluetooth module. Once I get through the initial bench work, which involves programming the EVM via the AIC3254 CS and [next] PurePath Studio to validate basic functionality, I will program the CODEC with an MSP4305438A. If subsequent tests are positive then I will incorporate the 3254 in the product design and build a first batch of test boards to evaluate signals and routing. This is just one part of a larger project.

For TI to ignore smaller companies, some of which are start-ups, is to invite a sort of persistent ill-will. One remembers the good and the bad. I don't know what resources TI has to apply (though I've been surprised to see extensive responses to hobbyist inquiries on this forum, which suggests that TI forum folks can do what they want), but the business managers are likely to be betting that it's more fruitful to pander to big [potential] customers rather than drill a bunch of holes (i.e. invest time in little companies) in the hope of hitting oil. I can speculate, but I don't know.

All that said, in business you make business decisions. I tend to look at my total project costs and risks, which can entail working with people & companies who do not have my goodwill. At the moment, I'm behind schedule, so my goodwill is rapidly draining away. Maybe if I wrote a question about using a TI CODEC to mix signals from an electric guitar and an MP3 player then there'd be some interest from tech support. Yes, I'm being snarky.

Give me a little time and I'll look over what you've sent in the hope that there is something obvious enough for me to pick up.

Best wishes,

Tim
